I enjoyed this, Mary Ellen, You write about Ryan in such a caring and uplifting way!
Just a quick thought about Ryan and his aversion to animals… my PDD boy had some trouble with this as a youngster. But I found that he really enjoyed large, sedate dogs. It was the unpredictability of the animals that seemed to bother him most. If this is something that you’re wanting to tackle, exposing Ryan to some more sedate animals might improve his tolerance.
Of course, he may just think animals smell bad or are uninteresting. And this may not be something your family needs to address, in which case please ignore the above unwanted advice.
By the way, you may not remember this, but you had once suggested Lindamood Bell to me to help with my son’s comprehension problems. Well, I’ve been taking your advice and using some “Visualizing and Verbalizibg” at home recently with some success! I’ve just ordered the precurser, “Talkies” last week since it’s obvious that we need to do some more work on prerequisite skills first…
I just wanted to say THANK YOU! We’re finally making some real progress in this area. :o)
