Welcome! My name is Mary Ellen Barrett and I’m so grateful you are taking the time to visit The Bonny Blue House. I am the besotted wife of David and am the mother of seven living children and two who have been called home to God, one by miscarriage and my oldest son, Ryan we lost when he was fourteen (2009). We miss him terribly but know he is in the loving arms of Our Lord and that’s a comfort. 
We are so grateful for every life entrusted to us.
I am a native New Yorker, Long Island born and bred, and no I don’t have an accent it’s the rest of you that do! I am a cradle Catholic married to a convert who wanted to have maybe three kids. That’s a perfect illustration of Mother Teresa’s quote, “You want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.”
I drink coffee by the bucket, only until it’s time to uncork the wine, and I’ve been known to enjoy a martini. I love to read, have recently become a huge fan of Audible due to my spending half my life in the car driving kids around. I am a writer by trade and inclination and I have been known to take on a speaking gig or two. I am also a lover of restaurants, travel, pedicures and bookstores. Not necessarily in that order.
This homeschooling thing has led to a lot of amazing things in all of our lives. We are so grateful to be able to live and learn together and build bonds with the children and grow in holiness (hopefully) together.
