Well we have attacked school with a vengance so far this week. It is the last week of the second quarter so the children are busy studying for their exams and putting the finishing touches on their essays and book reports. We’ve also been working on some notebook and scrapbook projects. In the sidebar you’ll notice that I uploaded some photo albums featuring lapbooks and a Catholic Faith Poster that we have worked on. The lapbooks are older but the poster was this week. Since Erin will be receiving her First Communion soon and Ryan will be confirmed next year it was time to get everyone working on their catechism. They do religion everyday and Seton’s religion books are essentially the catechism but I wanted to be sure everyone was doing all of their memory work. This poster, a work in progress, is hanging in the school room and is a wonderful visual reminder of the main points of our faith.

We are also working on Erin’s First Communion Notebook. In the next day or so I will post pictures of her work thus far. I will also put Katie’s book up. Actually they are more like scrapbooks than notebooks and we pay special attention to making the books pretty. They are in 12×12 binders and we use a lot of pretty papers and scrapbook techniques. I offer advice and I direct content but after that it is all on them.
These are the categories we are covering this year.
Our Lady, the Mass, our Church, Saints, Poetry and Prose, Pope JPII, Jesus, Ten Commandments, Blessed Trinity and the Sacraments.
It’s such a blessing to have a child receiving a sacrament. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the whole family to get involved in preparing and joyously celebrate.

Mary Ellen, thank you for sharing this post! I LOVE the poster, and I hope you don’t mind if I *borrow* the idea. 🙂
My Crackerjack is making FHC in May! We have, ahem, yet to begin our notebook but we will be this week! Can’t wait to see yours. 🙂

We are working on FHC and First Penance projects too! Ds(almost 8) will be receiving FHC on Mercy Sunday! I have a large notebooking thing in progress. He seems to want to do it more as we add pages. My twins will be receiving Confirmation next year too. I think the sacraments make “school” more exciting!
