Since I’ve been thinking of breakfast lately I thought I would try out making some homemade granola. I’ve never done it but I know that it is supposed to be easy.
It was.
Here is the recipe I came up with:
3 cups old fashioned rolled oats
1 cup of mixed nuts/seeds (I had some peanuts, some pumpkin seeds and slivered almonds)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup honey (I use organic)
1 cup dried fruit (I had cranberries, golden raisins, cherries)
I tossed the oats, nuts, spices, and honey in a bowl and combine until all of the dry ingredients are coated.
I spread it out on a large baking sheet (covered in foil to make clean up easier) and baked at 300 degrees for about 30 minutes. I stirred the mixture twice during the baking.
When it cooled through I added the fruit.
Pretty in mason jars with some homespun.
The rest of the afternoon was given to tending Ryan who is feeling just dreadful. Poor thing has tonsillitis and possibly strep. He had to miss the final performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream which added to his misery.
I did enjoy our new bird feeders. I recently discovered a store near us called The Wild Bird Feed Barn. I had to stop in earlier this week and I bought a platform feeder and a house feeder as well as 20 pounds of a mix. This, however, is not what I had in mind.
Little stinker. I’ll be mounting the feeder on a pole and hopefully the birds will get a better shot. We did have visits from a few Cardinals, Blur Jays, Starlings, many, many sparrows and to my utter delight a yellow-headed blackbird.
Now it is time to rest and relax.
Another attempt at an arty photo. Since it isn’t particularly successful I’d best go dispose of the subject :).
Have a wonderful evening.

Mary Ellen,
The granola recipe sounds great — might have to try that one as I happen to have all the ingredients in the house!
I love your arty photos — particularly the last one. I can’t drink those but I do occasionally have a whiskey on ice just before bed!!!!!
