I live in a noisy world. You do too I’m sure. My noise is comprised of seven lively children and their various activities. I have often thought God knew what he was doing when he blessed a woman who values order and quiet with a large family of children who do not share those values. It is my path to heaven, tolerating it all and trying to do so in a loving manner.

What has happened to silence? Will our children know it? Will they, and we, still hear the voice of God Who speaks to us in silence?
I am guilty of the social talk even after I take my prayer time. But that time after Mass, in communion with our Lord is a special time of prayer. All the saints tell us so.
Great article, as always!

Wonderful!!! I can’t wait to read the hate mail you get for suggesting that reverence in church is a good thing. 😉 Thanks for speaking the truth, as always…

I’d love to see a copy of this in every parish bulletin!
My conundrum is this: when Mass is over people come up to us and want to chat as we are getting our children ready to go, putting on their coats and hats, etc. I don’t want to be rude to refuse to respond. That doesn’t seem to be the answer. But I would like to preserve silence rather than contributing to the noise. I do try to make my replies as brief as possible and to keep my voice low. We try to teach our children to be quiet and respectful, not to run and yell. Anyone have any other suggestions for gently deflecting the attention and leading be example when you have four children under 5 who just attract attention?
