Oddly, we aren’t having tacos this evening. I, more often than not cook them on Thursday when we are much busier and out of the house, but taco Tuesday is much more fun to say for some reason ;).
I thought I would just pop in here and quickly share my recipe for taco seasoning. I never buy those packets, too much MSG and other nonsense and it really only takes a few minutes to put this together. I usually triple the recipe and keep it in a mason jar. I use two tablespoons per pound of ground beef.
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
Obviously this is easily customizable, should you like more heat, add more chili powder, more smokiness add more paprika, etc. Often I substitute the salt with seasoned salt (Lawry’s, it has to be Lawry’s)
Usually I dice a medium onion and soften it in some olive oil, then add two pounds of ground beef. When the pink is gone I drain, add four tablespoons of my magic mix, two-thirds of a cup water. Heat until the water is absorbed and voila, dinner in ten minutes.
I serve with hard taco shells, tortillas, sour cream, taco sauce, chopped black olives, shredded lettuce, shredded cheddar, salsa, diced tomatoes and when Katie is around avocado.
I’m working on a few new projects which I hope to share with you all soon, in the meantime Ole!
