Ryan and Katie are studying space this quarter. Specifically, the solar system. In addition to the Seton text we are observing the stars and the moon when we can and looking at tons of library books. A few years ago when Ryan was studying the planets he made a wonderful lapbook and now we get to pull it out and use it again.
This is the lapbook opened. The middle page has a narration Ryan did about the lifecycle of a star. The picture illustrates this. On either side on the black are the phases of the moon. Above the right panel is Ryan’s copywork of Genesis 1:14-16.
When you lift the flap there is a little model of the solar system made with flattened pom-poms.
On the right side is another folder with little flap books attached. Each flap book has a sticker of a planet (and yes, we used Pluto) and underneath Ryan wrote a few facts about each planet.
This was our first big attempt at a lapbook and I have to say it was, and continues to be, a really valuable tool. We have done a few but not lately and taking this one out has me thinking we should incorporate one into our studies soon.
If you want some lapbboking inpsiration swing by Sweetness and Light . If you scroll all the way down on the right sidebar Meredith has some albums that you can look at her children’s wonderful work.
