So I was talking to my friend this morning. She is a wealth of homeschooling experience and I asked her how I should fit nature walks into my routine. Her advice really struck a chord with me on this beautiful fall day. She told me not to fit it in but to make it a priority. She reminded me that in the dark cold days of February there will be enough indoor time to catch up on anything upon which we fall behind. Now, while the weather was perfect I should just go outside. An hour later we were in the car traveling to the South Shore Nature Preserve. BFITW was feeling spontaneous when I called and she was about ten minutes behind me in the car.
What a wonderful afternoon! The children had a wonderful time. There is a tiny two room nature center that has displays of all of the local wildlife, an indoor bee hive and several tanks of creepy, crawly, slimy things.
Then the 2 1/2 acres worth of trails provided a lot of opportunities to observe. It would have provided more had our little troop been quieter but you can’t have everything.

Hey, you were in my neck of the woods!!! It’s a great place just make sure you check for ticks. I agree with Michele – the winter will provide many inside opportunities for learning. We should enjoy this terrific weather!!! Thanks for the reminder!!!

Important reminder from your friend about February – even though I have a milder climate, I needed that reminder!!!
