One thing I wanted to make a serious commitment to this year in our homeschool was a regular visit to the library. Last year it was an iffy thing and if we made it once a month it was a lot.
I actually made it part of our schedule that on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month that we get to the local library as soon as it opens and spend an hour annoying the heck out of the people trying to read quitely quietly perusing the shelves.
I would much prefer to go every week or even twice a week but the twins are not on board with that schedule. They are beautifully behaved in the stroller for about five minutes and then the protest begins.
Today was no exception and I had to make a quick exit carrying them football style, one under each arm, with poor Katie scurrying behind me. She watched them in the car while I gathered the rest of the troops and checked out all of our books.
The left behind stroller came in handy as a book carrier.
So what did we get? Lots of books about weather for Erin’s lapbook, pictures will be posted. Books on India for our Tour A Country Study, a biography of Benedict Arnold for Katie, lots of books about birds for Ryan and Katie’s science/nature study and a bunch of weather, American history and nature videos which will hopefully keep us occupied during the upcoming rainy spell.

Last week we made our first trip to the library in quite a while. Our library is teeny tiny, but fortunately the librarian was quite understanding about all the ruckus! I actually got my twins out to let them play with the toys in the children’s section. I’m not sure which was louder — the yelling from the stroller, or the yelling over the toys…

What a grand effort that was, hooray!! I know how difficult it is going to the library with ONE very loud (I mean sweet) 2yo, and you did it with your whole gang, bravo!! We are scheduled for a library day this week too 🙂 Blessings!

Glad to see one of us won’t be taking a second mortgage to pay library fines anymore!

Good for you! I have not attempted to take my twins to the library yet……..:( Our library is very close so many of our children are able to walk there. And fortunately, my oldest has her driver’s liscense and can also take children there!

I couldn’t homeschool without the library. It is my #1 curriculum choice and has saved me a bundle. Thanks for your great blog. I was “turned on” to you by my friend (and yours) Michele Q. I have a son with Aspergers and was very inspired by your blogs about homeschooling your son. I look forward to your talk this summer in Lancaster. Thanks again for keeping us “posted!” Beth
