Mary Ellen,
What a beautiful article. I remember hearing you tell about Ryan’s diagnosis before, but really struck home today. Thank you for sharing him with all of us – we are blessed!
You speak to my heart! As a mother with an 11 year old with Asperger’s, our journey has been rocky but also full of joy and wonder. Finding your blog has been a God-send to me (my friend Michele Q. from our Lancaster homeschool group pointed me in your direction.) One day while reading the beatitudes I realized the one that fits my Nathan: Blessed are the pure of heart for they will see God.
Thank you again for sharing your journey.
This is truly a beautiful meditation, Mary Ellen.
Would you consider letting us have this as a submission for our book on Catholic Mothers of Special Needs Children?
We have just gotten Fr. Frank Pavone, Archbishop Chaput and Fr. Groeschel to write for the book, and this deeply touching, spiritually mature article would fit so well with their thoughts and insights in the book.

What a wonderful article. And a wonderful testament to welcoming even those not ‘perfect’ by society’s standards.
