I hope everyone had a lovely Independence Day weekend. I had such a nice relaxing time I was not even tempted to post about it.
Friday we went to a cookout at the house of my dearest friend. It’s this house so you know we had fun.
Saturday we had the blessing of having a totally free day. That has not happened in a long time. I took a nap, Dave played in the pool with the kids. It was overcast and muggy so we didn’t risk the beach but everyone had fun regardless. After dinner Dave had the brilliant idea to go for a drive down to the beach. We thought we would take a walk and enjoy some beach time in the cool of the evening. We ended up finding a trail the led from the Robert Moses field 5 beach to the Fire Island Lighthouse. This was such a pleasant surprise. Dave was particularly surprised since he used to be a lifeguard at Robert Moses and never knew about the trail. It’s a boardwalk trail and the going was easy with the stroller. We were able to observe tons of bunnies, birds, and deer. Lots of deer.
They were close enough to us that we were able to get some really good photographs, even in the twilight with my failing camera.
The Fire Island Lighthouse
All in all a great trip. We took about an hour and a half to walk the whole trail, which ended at the ocean, and return to the car. Then a trip to an ice cream parlor was almost required if you follow summer rules for evening outings. Homemade chocolate fudge brownie. This expectant mommy was in heaven.
Sunday Dave treated us yet again! Since it was another cloudy, rain-in-the-forecast day we decided to ditch the beach plans and after Mass the big sweetie treated us to a Sunday dinner at a local family friendly steakhouse. What a guy! I was so sorry to see him go to work yesterday. It was wonderful to have him to ourselves for three whole days.
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend as well. This week is devoted to the cardiologist (me), the dentist (Kate, Erin, Kelli, Kevin), and the orthodontist (the braces go on for Kate).
Have a blessed day.
