I love the hustle and bustle of my family life. The noisy busy-ness that accompanies all of our activities.
You know what else I love? Quiet. Being alone.
It doesn't happen all that often but it is happening right now. Dave has taken the older seven children on a nature walk and I am alone with the baby who is treating his mama to a nice long nap. So I showered in
now I am going to peacefully and quietly bake a cake. I am delighted to share the recipe.
Easy Orange Cake
3 cups flour
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup cooking oil
3 eggs
3/4 cup milk
2 teaspoons finely grated orange peel
1/2 cup fresh orange juice
Stir together dry ingredients. Stir together wet ingredients. Combine. Mix thoroughly. Pour into a welll greased and floured 10-inch tube pan. Bake 50-55 minutes at 350 degrees until tests done.
I have substituted lemon for orange and added 1/4 cup of poppy seeds too.

With a busy household I am very aware of quiet. I wish there was more, but the grocery stores, restaurants, even voice mail is filled with music and chatter. I often wonder why people are so afraid of being alone with their own thoughts. Silence truly is golden. I’m glad you are blessed with some today.
