So as I proceed throughout this summer, going to barbecues, camping in
Maine and swimming in the pool, I will remember that not everyone is
enjoying themselves, and even when I’m not enjoying myself, I’m way
better off than a lot of people. Our occasional car trips — I can’t
really call them vacations since I come back exhausted — make for
wonderful family memories. This one is more poignant, a reminder that
God calls us to minister to those in need even if we ourselves are
suffering.

I’ve had a pity party of my own going on over here, and being in the thick of it makes it a tad opaque for me to see beyond my own nose.
I keep trying that hourly reminder to myself that so many others are having more difficulty than I have.
I was browsing on the Newsday web site and saw a photo of a beautiful child. The child had drowned. Beneath the photo was a web address, and I logged on. All that I wanted to do was find a way to express my sympathy to the child’s family. I am sure that the child is in heaven. I will pray to him and I will pray for the parents.
