What a whirlwind. Between four Communions, two Confirmations, two weddings, one dance recital, several soccer games, many play rehearsals, and a brilliant performance of Romeo and Juliet by our homeschool Shakespeare group, I am pooped.
Seriously.
We have one more performance tomorrow and then I need to deal with some stuff around here. It looks like I've been holding rodeos here in the house (I haven't).
All of these happy events coupled with Mother's Day (I got a KINDLE!!!! I am officially hooked on Kindle) and Ryan's birthday made me miss my Ryan painfully this month. It was rough I tell you. Really rough. But we are rolling along here and are managing to find the happiness in joy in all of these lovely events. I mean, I like a party as much as anyone and it helps to celebrate with friends and family.
More about Shakespeare.
There is a small group of intrepid moms and children within our homeschool group who, for better or worse, decided four years ago that small children were indeed more than capable of performing Shakespeare. Not abridged versions but the full on play. This year was Romeo and Juliet, our first tragedy. In honor of the fact that we are still doing this one of the dads built us the mother of all sets.
Check that out. Two stories complete with a balcony. The three players are the chorus, Katie is the one on the left. She was completely eerie in the role.
Erin did a lot of the music.
We also make all the costumes. When I say "we" I mean one our students, who owns her own sewing business and one of our moms. I help with things like seams and hems.
Ryan was one of our players. During the performance yesterday, after intermission the children gathered and with their director, my dear friend Kari, they presented David and I with a large picture of Ryan playing guitar in Twelfth Night. I also received a bouquet of flowers and then we all had a good cry. These children, these "Front Lawn Players" were some of the best friends Ryan could have ever had. They accepted him and his often odd behaviors and they included him in everything. They called him friend and they loved him. For this and for many reasons each of these children is so dear to me. Close to my heart and ever in my prayers. They have learned well and early from their excellent parents the lesson that we are all God's children, created in his image and likeness. They gave of themselves selflessly and their example only improved Ryan and helped him learn to be a friend.
The back of the program included a dedication. The players dedicated this year's performance to Ryan.

Was any mother ever more blessed in her friends than I?

Oh Mary Ellen, you were indeed in my thoughts and heart and prayers throughout the difficult month of May. I missed seeing you on LI! You are indeed very blessed with a most wonderful group of friends there. And that set looks fabulous, as does the whole production (as usual)!!
