How on earth did it get to be Wednesday? What happened to this week that we are all ready in the middle of?
For that matter how did it get to be September?
We are in full fledged school mode here for about three and a half weeks and it's going well. We have gone much more CM than in the past and the lightened schedule and emphasis on reading has helped everyone enjoy things more. Some things we are enjoying…
Katie is taking calligraphy for handwriting this year and is really doing well. This is an idea I snitched from Meredith who is using it for the lovely and talented Violet. We are using Learn Calligraphy as well as Calligraphy Practice Paper and a lovely set of Shaeffer Calligraphy Pens. It's a great way to extend her handwriting studies and to practice I'm going to have her addressing my Christmas cards 🙂 (she doesn't know that yet!)
Erin has greatly increased her flute lessons and music theory classes, which she loves, and will be starting this year as the first chair flute in her Sinfonia Orchestra. She's on the homepage of the website and feels very famous as a consequence.
Kelli seems to have had a break through in reading and is rolling along quite confidently now. She loves our weekly library visits and is also quickly mastering the times tables.
Kevin has been fascinated with tarantulas lately so we scratched the mammal plans and started pulling lots of arachnid books out of the library. Yuck.
The twins are full on in my version of Toddler School/Pre-K. We are reading lots of books, playing outside whenver possible and they are each making an alphabet book. If you would like to hear more about how we keep the toddlers engaged and happy during homeschool please join a webinar I'm presenting on September 29th. I'll post the info at the bottom of this post.
Brendan, at 19 months doesn't do much school but is well advanced in disruption and destruction.
So that's a brief update. I hope everyone is enjoying the waning days of summer, fall begins officially next week and judging by the crispness in the air it's well on it's way.
Blessings to your day.

yay for the Webex! I’ll be there. I just started my first foray into homeschooling with my 3-yr old 2 weeks ago. We’re hoping it will be a way for us to gradually and seamlessly incorporate homeschooling into our lives and her skills and needs grow. great timing for this session – thanks!

Mary Ellen,
I was so excited to be able to participate in the webinar last night. I have four children with 8 years between my 3rd (8 yr) and 4th (11 mo.). It has been a long time since I homeschooled with a toddler and I was so grateful for your awesome ideas.
I have been following your blog for a few years, loving your ideas here and at O Night Divine. I wanted to let you know that you have a NW Washington contingent praying for you and your family. Your story, as well as Ryan’s, has been an inspiration to us.
God Bless You!
