Last week I shared the way I plan our menus for the week, truly the laziest way in the world to plan a menu. This week I thought I would share the list of favorites my family came up with for the colder months and they post my menu for the week.
Barrett Family Favorites (cold weather version)
- Meatloaf with mashed potatoes
- Port roast with sweet/sour glaze
- Pork chops with fried apples and roasted potatoes
- Stuffed pork chops
- Hamsteaks and apple sauce
- Lasagne
- Manicotti and sausage
- Spaghetti and meatballs
- American chop-suey
- Chinese orange chicken
- Soup and grilled cheese sandwiches (tomato, beef and barley, chicken noodle)
- Beef Stew
- Quiche (spinach and bacon) with salad
- Tortellini soup
- Chicken parmesan
- Fried Chicken cutlets
- Keilbasa and roasted potatoes
- Cheeseburgers (for days we can use the grill)
- Roasted chicken/turkey with stuffing
- Penne a la vodka
- Chicken and broccoli in alfredo sauce
- Chili and cornbread
- Tacos
- Chicken enchiladas
- Meatball heroes
As you can see, it’s a pretty big list and pretty family friendly as well. I do include veggies and often a big salad with every meal as well so those things must also be on the grocery list every week.
Not everyone loves everything on the list, for example Erin hates kielbasa so I would only make that on a day she isn’t home for dinner. This list also does not mean I don’t branch out and try something new once in a while, I have a recipe box on Allrecipes.com and I like to try new things when I have the opportunity, which at this time of year is generally only on Sundays. This list helps me when I am too busy to think much and am limited in the time I can take to prepare.
Now my menu plan for this week is going to be a little weird because we are leaving for vacation on Wednesday. However, we are staying with my dad and I will probably be cooking some and we are attending a family wedding and some events so there is going to be a lot of food involved so some planning involved no matter what, so here goes:
Sunday
Breakfast: Donuts after Mass (don’t judge)
Lunch: Sandwhiches
Dinner: Beef Stew and salad
Monday
Breakfast: Pancakes
Lunch: Chicken tenders and fries
Dinner: Burgers on the grill with veggies, cole slaw and a salad
Tuesday (going to be very busy packing)
Breakfast: Cereal
Lunch: Whatever you can scavenge
Dinner: Tacos
Wednesday (on the road ALL DAY)
Breakfast: Cereal and granola bars in the car
Lunch: Sandwiches at a rest stop (I pack a cooler)
Dinner: Will stop somewhere, not fast food)
Thursday (in Georgia)
Breakfast: Likely cereal
Lunch: Sandwiches
Dinner: Special dinner out for Dave and I, Papa will grill for the kids
Friday (in Georgia)
Breakfast: Pancakes and eggs
Lunch: Take the kids somewhere fun
Dinner: Family wedding (whoo hoo)
Saturday (in Georgia)
Breakfast: Cinnamon toast
Lunch and Dinner will be at the house my cousins are renting and we are all cooking. It should be a lot of fun.
Sunday
Not too sure of the plan for Sunday yet.
And that’s the big plan. I’m sorry to start on such a wierd week but it’s better to just start than not. I’m hoping to keep this feature going until Thanksgiving and then I have another plan for Mondays. In the meantime lets take advantage of the time to share and encourage each other!
Have you planned your menus this week?

Thanks for hosting this menu plan. I love getting new dinner ideas by checking out other families’ menus.
