My Irish twins. They’ve been best friends since he arrived, a bare eleven months after she did. They are the same age for a few weeks each year and they enjoy the gentle teasing that comes with that.
When the kids come close together it’s so difficult for mom. The day I brought Kevin home from the hospital Kelli took her first steps and I wondered why God was out to get me. That first year of Kevin’s life was tough on me, much harder than the actual twins that followed, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. They are close, and happy and dearly loved by their siblings.
Moms who are suffering from the utter exhaustion that comes with a houseful of babies close in age should know that it does get better and it is worth all the trouble, expense and long nights because eventually you get marathon Settlers of Catan games, video game competitions, schoolwork helping, private jokes, a special camaraderie and an unbreakable bond.
In a few days her age will change and they won’t be “twins” anymore but to this mama’s heart their closeness in age is such a gift and I’m so grateful God knew better than we ever would and blessed us this way.
